Not Everything in our Bibles is Inspired

Don’t be put off by the title. This book, written by World Horizons International Coordinator Neil Rees, will leave you more convinced that the Bible is the Word of God. More than this, it will challenge you to look at Scripture in fresh ways, ways that reveal more clearly the Bible’s missionary message. Listen to what others have said about it:

(From the foreword by Ralph Winter.) “What you have in your hands is a jewel. On the one hand it is a light, jaunty page-turner, almost like reading a novel. At the same time it is constantly wandering (cleverly, intentionally) into a huge amount of the kind of information about the Bible that is normally reserved for privileged seminary students.

I truly doubt if anyone has ever written a book which makes so much ‘weighty’ knowledge about the Bible so digestible, so accessible, so fascinating and so attractive. It is not to be read just once, but treasured as a permanent reference to which you will want to refer again and again. I suspect if Neil had given chapter titles that employed seminary language to describe their contents, you, the reader, might be inclined to skip this one or that one. As it is, you can’t possibly imagine what is in a chapter simply by reading its title! But that is a very good thing. No serious believer ought to skip even a single chapter. Once you get into a chapter you find yourself involved in information you might never have sought out – mainly because you could not have imagined what it was.

This is a very important book. It is very important for the simple reason that the Bible itself is very important. There is no more important book to know all about than the Bible, and this book will tell you many, many things which 98 per cent of Christ’s followers don’t know and have never even thought about.

Good work, Neil. You have created an incredibly valuable introduction to the Bible, and you have done it in a marvellously winsome way. It is bound to be a major blessing to many.”

Such a good book! It clears away the undergrowth of tradition to reveal hidden treasure, so that the Bible reads like new. Best of all, fresh understandings emerge that have to do directly with the mission of the church today.

Provocative? Yes, but refreshing and entirely biblical! A book to blow away the cobwebs in places where our windows have been closed and there is no through draught. I love it and will recommend it to our team and church leaders as an aid to encourage mission and missionary support. Neil Rees’ unashamed objective is to remove any hindrance or barrier which may exist in our minds towards the fulfillment of the great commission. I heartily recommend his book as a challenge to think differently and to think biblically about mission and the support of those involved.

Don’t be fooled by the title of this book. It has not been written with the intent of undermining the inspiration or authority of the scriptures. Quite the reverse, Neil wants to see the scriptures released from trappings that can so easily prevent the message of God being clearly understood by those who need to hear it.

Fasten your seat belts for a turbulent ride that will challenge your presuppositions and cause you to review how you study God’s Word. Neil Rees speaks directly into our comfort zones, as his sharp missional perspective shapes our thinking to a more Biblical standard. He carefully explains the way things were written and encourages us as to how we can apply ageless truth in our current culture.
