Area Profile: Silk Road East
The Silk Road …steeped in history; a trade route from east to west.
Now, at the eastern end, where traders set out from, we find a thriving, booming nation; a country full of contrast; street sellers outside designer shops, rural life contrasting with modern cities, areas of revival and areas largely unreached.
The people are welcoming, proud of their history and keen to make history as they enter this new century and a mandate stands before those who desire to share the good news they have found and take it back along the ancient Silk Road.
Our vision is to see God’s kingdom come amongst the unreached people of the Silk Road regions through outreach, developing intercession and training and facilitating the local church to go.
The Lord has shown us key cities to be working in; to establish praying, worshiping teams, reaching out through compassion ministry, education and business. We also desire to train local people to go out to new places along the Silk Road. We believe business will play an important role in this. Foreign workers have a part to play supporting and coming alongside their local brothers and sisters.
Our teams are small and pioneering new work. We desire team members committed to working in team, encouraging and caring for each other and being able to take initiative.
Here is a taste of what we do:
Prayer
Gathering people together to pray for the city we live in. Waiting on the Lord for his guidance to pray. This is an important part of our ministry.
Teaching
There are many opportunities in language teaching. It is a good opportunity to build relationship both with students and colleagues.
Compassion
We currently work with others amongst street people, providing basic needs and some medical help. We hope to develop this into bringing skills training and helping people find an occupation. Through all this we are building relationship.
Business
We have some beginning work in business. We would like to see more business develop as a context for outreach, bringing transformation to communities, helping street people learn new skills and work. We also see business as a context to train others and enable them to move further along the Silk Road.
Skills training
We have a training project teaching practical skills to young girls, all from a minority group from a high-altitude place. People have taught language, sowing, jewellery making, computer skills and other skills to these girls, giving them much greater opportunities for their future and sharing the life we have with them.
Vacancies
We are looking for:
Praying people: This is a significant part of our ministry.
Business people: People interested in using business as context for ministry and transformation in communities and to train others.
People with practical skills that could be used to teach the poor and also unskilled youth.
People to teach English or learn Chinese and outreach into community.
People to help with the training project to girls: language teachers; skill training.
A manager to help run the project
Administrator: someone also good at communication, computer skills.
Long term workers require training in the UK and language learning and orientation on field.
There are also short term opportunities and gap year opportunities.
