How we work
World Horizons is committed to excellence at all stages of our ministry. Typically, our workers are involved in the following areas:
Envisioning - communicating the needs of the world to God's people, with a view to engaging the church actively in fulfilling the Great Commission.Training - adequate initial and ongoing preparation in the character, understanding and skills needed to work as successful agents for change in a cross-cultural context.
Support - providing workers with the personal and logistical support needed in order for them to be effective in their individual ministries.
Church-planting - we hold the long-term aim of seeing viable indigenous churches established amongst the least reached peoples of the world. Evangelism, discipleship and church-support ministries form part of this long-term focus.Compassion ministries - ministry must be directed to the holistic needs of those we work amongst, and, whilst avoiding the larger relief efforts best undertaken by specialised ministries, workers are involved in ground-level development, educational and poverty-relief projects.
Business as Mission - the long-term job of changing nations will be accomplished not solely by "spiritual" ministries, but through transformational business. We thus encourage the integration of business initiatives with mission opportunities, and accept those called to serve God in this way as full members of our community of ministries.Sports ministries - these form another holistic response to the need of nations, providing a means of rebuilding communities whilst providing a context for acceptable Christian witness.
Prayer - beyond the specifics of each individual's ministry, prayer is both the foundation for what we do, undergirding all new initiatives, and the focus of ministry for others. Building effective ongoing prayer is a vital part of our mission identity.Team - individual ministry is held in safety in the context of teams, and "teams of teams" across the world. Whether relating through geography or by ministry, each individual finds their identity as part of a team, itself a member of an interdependent network of teams committed to one another and to their God-given aims.
