The spiritual faculty of hearing is deeply tied to discerning the truths of God. To hear God spiritually means to draw accurate spiritual conclusions — about God, His teachings, and the circumstances of life. The aim of spiritual hearing is a faith that saves, guiding us into holy obedience and divine direction. We receive God’s word, believe it, and then shape our lives around it, responding actively to His voice.

We must be vigilant in how we listen, for careless hearing can cause us to lose even the understanding we already possess. True spiritual listening requires discerning rightly—drawing sound conclusions from the evidence God provides. When this discernment is neglected, the heart can gradually harden, a dangerous condition that may lead people astray, whether through embracing myths, distortion of truth, or shutting out the voice of God altogether.

Genuine hearing, however, produces godly faith. Such faith opens the way to salvation, releases miracles, and grants access to God’s transforming power. When we hear God with faith and obedience, our spiritual lives are strengthened and made resilient—firmly established on the rock, able to withstand opposition, uncertainty, and change.

Prompts for prayer

  1. Take some time today to remember what you have heard from the Lord about countries, peoples, projects, and dreams. Write it down and pray about it.
  2. Remember what you have heard from God and what has already been fulfilled. Thank Him for His faithfulness to His promises.
  3. Choose a Bible passage that resonates in your heart, reinforcing what you have already heard from the Lord. If there is a song that mentions the chosen passage, listen to it or sing along.

📖 Nehemiah 1:1–11

During this ‘Prayer Month’ we invite you to read the book of Nehemiah with us. Nehemiah carried a heavy burden in his heart, and God led him to step into a daunting task that would transform the situation of his people.

Nehemiah’s journey starts with really listening. When he hears about the broken walls of Jerusalem, he doesn’t brush it off or rush into action. He lets it sink in and touch his heart. Instead of reacting straight away, he takes time to fast, pray, and repent—showing a deep sensitivity to what God is saying. His response reminds us that true spiritual hearing slows us down, draws us closer to God, and teaches us to rely on Him before we move forward.

“When I heard this, I sat down and wept. For several days I mourned, fasted and prayed to the God of heaven” (Nehemiah: 1:4)

Generating prayer questions

  1. How can I pray like Nehemiah?
  2. Nehemiah used words such as: Hear, look, remember, confess. What do I learn from this prayer and how can I put it into practice?
  3.  In what areas has God been speaking to me and should I pray for a long period of time as Nehemiah did?

May be led to pray with different lenses, with our spiritual senses awakened and alert to what 2026 holds for us.
