You can hear a story, watch a scene unfold, or observe beauty from a distance \u2014 but tasting demands that you step in. You don\u2019t evaluate a flavor by analysis alone; you experience it. You take it in. It becomes part of you.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spiritually, we\u2019re invited into that same kind of intimacy.<\/p>\n<p>The psalmist writes, \u201cTaste and see that the Lord is good\u201d (Psalm 34:8). Scripture doesn\u2019t say, \u201cLook at God\u2019s goodness from afar\u201d or \u201cListen to someone else talk about Him.\u201d It invites us to taste \u2014 to encounter God in a way that moves beyond information into transformation.<\/p>\n<p>To taste is to participate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldhorizons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/pink-nose-on-light-blue-150x150.png\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" alt=\"An illustration of a nose symbolising smell\" class=\"wp-image-2448 alignnone size-thumbnail\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>The Aroma of Truth <\/strong><strong>\u2014 <\/strong><strong>Spiritual Discernment<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Smell is one of the most fascinating senses. It warns us of danger before we see it. It alerts us when something is spoiled long before we taste it. And at the same time, smell draws us toward beauty \u2014 a favorite meal cooking, fresh rain in the air, the fragrance of a flower carried on the wind.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Spiritually, smell plays a similar role. Scripture often uses fragrance as a metaphor for discernment, purity, worship, and the presence of God. There\u2019s a reason Paul writes that believers are \u201cthe aroma of Christ\u201d and that our lives can give off a fragrance that reflects who we belong to.<\/p>\n<p>Smell is not passive; it\u2019s protective and invitational. Go for a prayer walk. Pay attention to what you hear, smell, and taste. Is it pleasing or unpleasant? What might these impressions reveal about your community? What needs to change?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15px; font-family: Poppins, Helvetica, Arial, Lucida, sans-serif;\">2. What kind of spiritual \u2018aroma\u2019 do you sense where you live or in your nation? <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px; font-family: Poppins, Helvetica, Arial, Lucida, sans-serif;\">Is it life-giving or toxic? Pray for renewal and purity.<br \/><\/span><br \/>3. Try savouring something new this week that connects you to your wider community. As Ezra reads the law, they &#8216;taste&#8217; truth in a way that nourishes them, brings conviction, and fills them with joy. It\u2019s a picture of spiritual taste: letting God\u2019s Word move from information to nourishment.<\/p>\n<p>Later, in <strong>Nehemiah 12\u201313<\/strong>, we see the idea of spiritual smell. The dedication of the wall rises like a pleasing aroma of worship, while Nehemiah\u2019s discernment in <strong>chapter 13<\/strong> shows the opposite \u2014 the ability to &#8216;sense&#8217; what is spiritually spoiled and remove corruption before it spreads.<\/p>\n<p>Together, these moments show that when we feast on God\u2019s Word, we become more sensitive to the fragrance of what is pure, and quicker to recognize what isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Generating prayer questions<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>When has discernment brought you resolution and peace? Praise God for that gift!<\/li>\n<li>Have you ever missed the mark? Ask the Lord to sharpen your spiritual senses.<\/li>\n<li>Where do you need guidance in 2026?
