Their first weeks combined outdoor challenges, cultural learning, spiritual formation and practical skills that pushed them well outside their comfort zones. I thought that was for the ultra-spiritual, not someone like me. But Scripture says otherwise. God <em>pours <\/em>out His spirit on all people. (Joel 2:28\u201329).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Still determined to leave, I mentioned it to a few teammates. A teammate prayed that God would give me clear direction. I didn\u2019t expect much, but I agreed to try.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Another teammate encouraged me to look back at anything God might have spoken before I joined the training. So I opened an old note on my phone, and discovered a &#8216;<em>word&#8217;<\/em> I\u2019d written down months earlier. It said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>&#8216;You won\u2019t go into counselling or psychology after university. You must pursue God\u2019s work for you.&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I was stunned. My first instinct was to argue: &#8216;<em>Lord, I can\u2019t even afford to finish this training.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Within weeks, completely unexpectedly, my church paid the remaining fees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At every turn, God kept surprising me. All that was left was obedience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I share this because mission rarely looks like what we imagine. A lack of enthusiasm, or even outright resistance, is not too big an obstacle for God. When we surrender to Him, we find ourselves drawn into that shared calling for every disciple:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>&#8216;Go and make disciples of all nations\u2026&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And so now, instead of running from the idea, I\u2019m beginning to commit my life to whatever God is calling me to overseas.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldhorizons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Pioneer-Landrover-2026.jpg\" width=\"965\" height=\"543\" alt=\"Pioneer Initiative graduates packing Land Rover\" class=\"wp-image-2594 alignnone size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldhorizons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Pioneer-Landrover-2026.jpg 965w, https:\/\/www.worldhorizons.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Pioneer-Landrover-2026-480x270.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 965px, 100vw\" \/><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Surrendering to God\u2019s direction<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">David&#8217;s journey reminds us that God often works most powerfully when our own plans begin to unravel. His story isn\u2019t just about a change of direction, it\u2019s about learning to listen, to wait, and to trust that God speaks to ordinary people in ordinary moments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As you read his experience, take a moment to reflect:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Where might God be challenging your assumptions about your future?<\/li>\n<li>Are there areas where you&#8217;re holding tightly to comfort, security, or your own expectations?<\/li>\n<li>What doors might God be opening that you\u2019ve been hesitant to walk through?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">David didn\u2019t begin with confidence, clarity, or enthusiasm, he began with reluctance. Yet God met him with provision, guidance, and gentle persistence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Perhaps God is inviting you into the same kind of openness. Ask Him what obedience looks like for you in this season. Be willing to revisit <em>words<\/em> He has already spoken. And consider how He might be calling you, whether across the world or across the street, to join in His mission.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0* Name changed for security reasons.
