‘As the plane started the climb into the warm dry air above the Gulf, I felt pleased to feel no connection with the city’s glamour and riches and the surrounding desert’s monotonous repetitiveness. My calling, my heart, is to mountains with granite edges, to wild seas grey with cold and to peoples unscathed by flocks of Toyota Land Cruisers’. – Noah November 2012

Acts 1:8 Series – Our Story

After a few visits to the Gulf for work, a great friend suggested that we both move, with our families, to a desert city to establish our business there. Something took root in my heart. I discussed the idea with my wife Martha and she was on board; which we saw as confirmation to go ahead.

During August 2014, we moved out to the Gulf with two of our children. Life soon became hectic; the oil price collapsed, which meant we lost all our work and could no longer afford to rent our home. We moved in with friends, then our friends moved away. The decision was made that Martha and the kids should returned to the UK for a period.

And then the impact of the Covid pandemic hit! We lost all our work again and we lost our office. We worked from home and our prospects looked bleak.

But slowly, we started to build again. Today we have a great home, a fantastic office, an excellent team and some amazing work opportunities.

There are no mountains or wild seas here, but there is a sense of living on the edge. It is a place where few people are unscathed by the pressures of the modern world, with many damaged by an erosion of purpose, connection and meaning. Not quite the ends of the earth where I was expecting to live my life, but certainly close enough!
